Sight Loss Heritage

For 150 years, the Beacon Centre has been part of the local community, but the history of people living with sight loss has gone untold. With support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, we’re changing that.

This teal circle logo shows a hand with two fingers crossed. Around it, text states made possible with Heritage Fund.

We’re collecting stories, memories and experiences from blind and partially sighted people, as well as their families and carers. These will be recorded and shared so future generations can understand, learn from and celebrate this important history.

We’re also working with the Wolverhampton City Archives to make historic records more accessible, so people with sight loss can connect with the past in new ways. Exhibitions, tactile displays and digital resources will bring these stories to life for everyone.

This project isn’t just about the past – it’s about making sure voices are heard today and helping to shape a more inclusive future. Whether it’s your own experience or that of a family member, we’d love to hear your sight loss story. Use the form below to get involved.

This project has been made possible thanks to National Lottery players. The National Lottery Heritage Fund is the
largest funder for the UK’s heritage. Using money raised by National Lottery players they support projects that connect people
and communities to heritage. Their vision is for heritage to be valued, cared for and sustained for everyone, now and in the future.
