2025 is a momentous year for Beacon as we will be celebrating our 150th anniversary. This milestone is not just a celebration of our history but an opportunity to create lasting change for people living with sight loss in our region.
Since we were founded in 1875 as Wolverhampton Society for the Blind, we have been pioneers in supporting the sight loss community and have remained at the forefront of Black Country innovation, from opening one of the UK’s first charity shops in 1899 to delivering innovative, life-changing services today.
This special event will be a highlight of our 150th celebrations, offering an elegant evening of entertainment and an excellent opportunity to support Beacon’s vital services.

Key note speaker – Darren Harris PLY MPSA
Darren’s greatest achievements occurred on the sports field, becoming a Paralympian in both judo and football, and becoming England’s highest-capped and most decorated blind and male footballer with 157 appearances and 10 World and European medals.

Master of ceremonies – Dicky Dodd
Dicky’s career in radio started at Beacon Radio back in 1994. Since then he has enjoyed many years of hosting on-air radio shows and events. That’s a huge 29 years of being a radio and event host.
