What is an NHS Health Check?
A free and quick check that can help spot early signs or risk factors for stroke, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and kidney problems. Early detection can save lives — a 45-minute check could help you understand your health risks and take action sooner.
What will be checked?
✔ Blood pressure
✔ Cholesterol and blood sugar with a small pin-prick blood test
✔ Height and weight
✔ Your advisor will also ask about Smoking, food, activity and alcohol
You’ll receive:
✔ Your QRISK heart risk score
✔ Your Heart Age
✔ An explanation of what your results mean
✔ Simple recommendations to support your health
✔ Information about free local support
Am I eligible?
Everyone can have a mini Health Check. A full NHS Health Check is available for people who are:
- aged 40-74
- not diagnosed with a pre existing medical condition such as Heart disease, stroke, Diabetes, kidney disease, high blood pressure or high cholesterol
- not taking statins
What if I’m at risk?
Your Health Check advisor will send your results to your GP, who can follow up on anything that may need further investigation.
