Choose your challenge and make a fresh start in 2023

Every day in the UK, 250 people begin to lose their sight, and that’s why we need you to Take on 250 for the Beacon Centre for the Blind.

All you need to do is choose a new challenge or take on something you know you love. Either way, it’s a great kick start to your New Year.

Walking, running, cycling or swimming; cake-baking or singing; dancing or knitting; it’s all up for grabs – and you complete 250 of whatever challenge you decide. It could take 250 minutes or hours, involve 250 steps or laps, 250 repetitions or making 250 items.

You get to choose your own fundraising target; we just ask you to raise as much as you can.

The possibilites for your Take on 250 challenge are endless but we’ve put together a few ideas to get you started.

You could:

  • Bake 250 cakes
  • Walk 250 laps of your local park
  • Do 250 minutes of yoga
  • Cycle 250 miles
  • Write 250 poems
  • Climb your stairs 250 times
  • Sing 250 song requests
  • Complete 250 squats per day
Why 250?

In the UK, 250 people a day start to lose their sight that’s 1 person every 6 minutes.

Can I fundraise however I like?

Yes, of course. But it’s a great idea to give your events a 250 theme. For example, by doing 250 laps around your garden, having an event to swap 250 items of clothes, baking 250 cupcakes to sell or running for 250 minutes, the possibilities are endless!

Do we have to raise £250?

It’s always good to have a target and £250 is a key number for us to focus on. However, any amount you raise is greatly appreciated and will make a big difference to people living with a visual impairment in the Black Country and Staffordshire.

How do I fundraise?

You can create a personalised take on 250 fundraising page on a platform such as Just Giving and send the link to your family, friends and work colleagues. You can also share it on social media and let others know why you are inspired to support Beacon and our members living with a visual impairment

What will the money I raise be used for?

All the funds raised will help the team at Beacon to empower people in the Black Country and beyond with a visual impairment to take control of their lives, live safely, independently and achieve their personal goals.
